I want to tell you about a powerful and meaningful experience I had seven years ago. I had just finished my staj year teaching and had not found a job yet. My sister recommended me to try to get accepted to volunteer abroad in Nepal. At first I did not want to.

Tevel Bezedek (The world in Justice) is an organization  that operates in Nepal and Africa and helps the locals there. They have programs in education, women, agriculture and youth. I, as you can imagine worked in education with wonderful teachers. I helped them build more diverse and interesting lesson plans; until then they had only taught English with the help of memorization.

Volunteering was four months, we came 25 young people to Nepal. In the first month we learned together about the wonderful culture and the language as much as possible. we lived together in a big villa and learned most of the day. After a month we were divided into three groups: two groups in villages and one group in Kathmandu city. There we lived and worked according to our theme. I was in Kathmandu in an apartment with six other friends and worked with a partner with teachers from four schools in Nepal.

All the time I spoke English, which was an excellent way to improve it.Our group also had some young people who came from the US.My partner in education was American and I had the opportunity to get to know her.

Throughout the volunteering we came to the various schools and met teachers and students. We gave them English lessons, which the loca lteachers observed and learned from In addition, we also did advanced training for the teachers.

There are no studies in the winter, so we did a winter camp for the children.

Once a month we would meet the whole group, the company came from the village and we studied together.

The Nepali people are a nice, kind and hospitable people.

I met amazing people and learned about a wonderful culture. Nepal is beautiful country with breathtaking views.

I was privileged to continue touring after volunteering with friends from the program and I was rewarded with friends for life.

It's the best decision I've ever made.

If you know young people who can afford to volunteer for a few months I recommend it.

  3. What I like about this project is that we learn so many sides to all of you and discover new things about your lives, personalities and hobbies. This post is a prime example.
