I was not interested in TV shows for years, until I saw a Turkish series. What is it about these telenovelas that makes so many Israelis addicted to them, and how did some of them manage to enter our hearts during such a tense period with Erdogan's country?
Most Turkish series and movies are based on reality and therefore are
very addictive. They are also kitschy, full of heartbreaking love stories and
absurd plot twists, each episode ends on a cliffhanger.
The Turkish series are originally broadcast once a week, each episode can range from a minimum of 90 minutes to two and twenty hours for one chapter. In Israel, they are broadcast in the traditional format, that is, every evening, to suit the local audience and it really works The Turks have seen the success and started editing the chapters down to an hour and now they are distributing them abroad in such length.
From the first moment I started watching Turkish series, I became
addicted to them, I can no longer watch series and movies in other languages
The first series I watched (along with all the women of Israel) was "The Bride from Istanbul", A romantic drama based on a true story, one of the most successful and watched in Turkey and in Israel, starring Ozken Deniz and Asli Anbar. The basis is an impossible love story between a poor young woman, Syria is a talented musician working as a singer, and Farouk a rich and handsome businessman, but her life changes when she falls in love with Farouk Buran.
The Buran family is one of the oldest, richest, and most respected families in Turkey. The head of the family is Asma, Farouk's mother and three brothers. Farouk is her favorite son and she has big plans for him, including organizing a wedding with a bride she has chosen for him But Farouk leads a completely independent life and is unaware of his mother's plans. He falls desperately in love with Syria, offers her marriage and she immediately agrees.
All this happiness is spread across many episodes (301 to be precise!).
To conclude, once you start watching these series you get hooked. I also became addicted to these series. Despite this, watching the Turkish series also gave me a benefit, I learned another language, I can say many sentences in the Turkish language so that the next time I'll go to Turkey I can talk to the locals.
Tip: I recommend the MONDLY app
I've never tried but I have girlfriends who are really addicted.
ReplyDeletePeople will forever love telenovelas and I think that in such a difficult time, people try to hold on to something that is sometimes a bit detached from the reality of most of us. To dream and fantasize. This is what TV does for me and I wish I had time to sit and watch Netflix with ice cream for at least an hour a day.
I tried to watch a couple of Turkish telenovelas and they were very catchy! I saw the begginning of "Arabian nights" and also the beggining of "The bride from Istanbul". In my opinion the actors play very well, they have amazing locations and the houses of those large families look fabulous...but the series are looong! I lost my patience at some point. I prefer to watch shorter stories, and there are so many interesting series nowdays! I wish I had the time to enjoy all the material that is made...

ReplyDeleteI've never seen a Turkish series.
A lot of my friends saw the bride from Istanbul and really enjoyed it. I love watching movies and series and admit that I have not tried to watch dramas in Turkish. I am less attached to telenovelas and this language. Maybe I'll try and get addicted too.
Never tried but when I was little my family andI tend to watch telenovelas daily. About the Turkish telenovelas, I think people attracted to that because it is something new, and it will disapear as fast as it came.
